There you are, walking around downtown. Seeing the sights, smelling the smells.

And then you see a fellow bent over, clutching his stomach in pain.

Congrats, you’ve found a new hot prospect.

If only you sold a pill that fixed painful stomachs. You’d make a sale on the spot.

Something similar happened to me recently (don’t worry, there is a marketing lesson coming in hot).

I am the type of person to just power through minor ailments like headaches, etc. I don’t take stuff and just wait for it to go away usually. Dunno why, I just prefer to let it run its course.

But I went to bed with a headache and woke up at 2 am with that same headache x10.

Doubled over, fetal position, nausea. The whole nine yards.

My wife gets up (the tender, sweet woman she is) and gets something.

“Here, take this.”

Down the hatch, Thatch. No questions asked. Don’t even know what it is.

No follow up phone calls. No second sales meeting. No abandoned cart.

The lesson:

Selling is always easier at the height of your prospect’s pain.
